Sustainability At The Outpost

Back to the ‘Old Days’ or ‘Saving the Planet?’

Fresh, Local & Sustainable.

It seems to us that a lot of the advice we are given about recycling/reusing/reducing waste is what we were all doing over 50 years ago, so should it really be that hard to follow?

With the advent of a global pandemic people are really looking at staying closer to home for all things, holidays/shopping/eating out so small, independent businesses are really seeing a surge in customers which is great! Don’t get me wrong, the internet – that genie which most certainly isn’t going back into its bottle! – is here to stay, lets face it, it makes all our lives much easier in some ways, but there must be room for both. The alternative? Bare high streets closed down shopping outlets, towns with no soul. That’s no alternative, it’s a disaster!

Here at The Cotswold Outpost we are doing our best to reduce our carbon footprint – our meat, fruit & veg, bread, milk & cheese, even our gifts, are all sourced from an area of around 20 miles – and in doing so hope that we are, in some small way, helping our beautiful environment.

Some of the things we feel make a difference:

Milk Machine

Our milk vending machine: freshly filled two/three times a week from a dairy who milk their own cows less than 15 miles away and glass bottles which can be purchased from us and re-used again & again – not to mention the fun factor for the kids, we’ve just introduced ‘Make your own Milkshake’!

Our PodPoint electric car charger: a fast charger which, at present, is the only one between Cheltenham & Oxford on the A40

Distance from our suppliers:

Cacklebean Eggs – five miles

Marks Cotswold Bakery sourdough – 11 miles

Bramleys Fruit & Veg – 12 miles

R & D Butchers – 13 miles

North Cotswold Dairy milk – 14 miles

So! Come on folks! Let’s do this thing together!
